Descanso Gardens in La Canada Flintridge, California, is botanical garden as well as a historical site which is around 160 acres wide. The garden which is located in San Rafael Hills, considered as a natural bowl, is a calming haven located around 15 miles north of Los Angeles. The garden which can be reached by land in just 20 minutes is one of the world’s top gardens and largest camellia collection with over 100,000 plants.
The Descanso Gardens houses several gardens such as the International Rosarium containing thousands of roses, and the Japanese Gardens. Children can also have a great time riding in the mini diesel train called the Enchanted Railroad of the Descanso Gardens. Aside from these, there are still more attractions to enjoy at the site.
There are over 300,000 people visiting the Descanso Gardens each year. The site which is accredited by the American Association of Museums includes the horticultural displays and the reputed botanical collections. The camellia and oak forests which covers around 20 acres, is considered the largest collection of camellias in the North America. The 35,000 plants with the size of a tree grow under the canopy of coast lives oaks that are already 150 years old. The camellias, along with azaleas bloom in late January until April.
